Description: Where Britney Spears's first two albums hewed to the early-'60s formula of one strong single plus a stack of filler--a fair bit of which ended up on the radio anyway--her third justifies itself as a full-length listen. Led by the single "I'm a Slave 4 U," a Neptunes-helmed piece of electrofunk that promises she'll do anything you want as long as it's dancing, the album continues through superior versions of Spears's poses. Calculated frustration with the adult world? Calculated independence? Sheer celebration? Check, check, and check: "Overprotected," "Let Me Be," and a cover of "I Love Rock & Roll" that brings to mind its bubblegum roots. Even without the joyous disco tribute of "Anticipating" and the not-icky ballad "I'm Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman" providing symbolic respite from the rest of this machine-tooled music, Britney is one of the most human discs of the current teen-pop boom. If it spins off the deserved string of radio/video smashes, it may even buy this superstar a second 15 minutes. --Rickey Wright

Reviews:

Britney's not a girl or woman but a utslay!

Britney has it all: she's a liar, a fake blonde, a hypocrite, a rude witch and is not beautiful. Plus, she's pregnant with an ugly baby that will be born deformed by a freeloader!! I would laugh if Chucky diced her up like he did to her lookalike in the new Child's Play movie!! I get ANGRY when people praise this piece of ****. It's like somebody insulting your mother or girlfriend. I loathe that song I'm a Slave 4 U. Using letters and numbers shows if you aren't prince, you suck! Boys is a dumb song too! If Bob Dylan is going to work with The Neptunes, I'll boycott his ass. But back to Britney: both she and this CD SUCK!!!

Britney's not a girl, but DEFINITELY a woman!

Britney has it all: she's blonde and beautiful. Plus, she's pregant and will have a baby!! I'd give everything I own to be with her for just ONE second! That's how important she is to me. She's a huge figure in my life, and I get ANGRY when people insult her. It's like somebody insulting your mother or girlfriend. I love that song "I'm a Slave 4 U" and "Boys." They were produced by the Neptunes, the best producers around. I heard that Bob Dylan is going to work with the Neptunes, after listening to Justin Timberlake's awesome "Justified" CD. But back to Britney: both she and this CD are incredible. It's her third classic in a row. I give it my highest possible recommendation!

Successful metamorphosis

With her first two albums Britney Spears proved to everyone that throne of Madonna - The Queen Of Pop is in serious danger. And now with her third album simply entitled "Britney" it seems she can also take away the crown from Janet Jackson - The Queen Of R'n'B. After listening to this album I think it's a question of time.

This album is a bridge between Spears' pop past and her r'n'b future because besides up-tempo pop songs written and produced by Max Martin, who is responsible for huge success of her previous albums which made her the biggest pop star on Earth, above all it surprises with completely brand new r'n'b sound. All because Britney's new producers Rodney Jerkins and The Neptunes showed her a new way of searches in music and wrote for her almost half of all songs on this album. It caused very successful metamorphosis of her music. Such big pop artists like Justin Timberlake and Dido also wrote some material. And even Spears co-wrote five songs.

All this album is very catchy and even its bonus tracks and b-sides are among the most marvellous things Spears ever did (especially astonishing "Before The Goodbye" and "I Run Away" available only on the expanded editions). The best song on this version is "Cinderella" - brilliant up-tempo track and definitely one of her best ever. Other great songs are such r'n'b jewels like: "I'm A Slave 4 U", "Lonely", "What It's Like To Be Me" or "Let Me Be" and such pop pearls like: "Bombastic Love", "Overprotected" and beautiful ballad "I'm Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman".

Unfortunately this is a standard version of this album with only 12 songs. It's better to buy one of its expanded editions. You can choose either version with 15 songs (with all 3 brilliant Japanese bonus tracks) or special edition with 2 from 3 Japanese bonus tracks, 3 very good remixes of album's best hits and DVD with her 3 videos, interview and Pepsi's commercial (but either with ballad "I Run Away" or with dance masterpiece "Before The Goodbye").

Every fan of Spears, Madonna or especially Janet Jackson must have this album. Like always, it's full of great songs and so fresh production. So choose your edition and enjoy!
