Could've been better
Nice collection, but their are already so many Bonnie Tyler compilations out there. This one shoulda dropped some of the earlier stuff and added "Save Up All Your Tears", "If You Were A Woman", "Band Of Gold", "Two Out of Three Ain't Bad". But it is nice to get "Tire Tracks and Broken Hearts" on a Bonnie cd, so that is a plus! I really thik they should have also included the FULL version of "Total Eclipse of the Heart" and not the single version. And checkout Bonnie's new lips on the photos, she sorta looks like a drag queen on the cover photos, but the others are much nicer, but I can't get past her lips!!! Definitely not the same!
Great collection of Bonnie's music
Bonnie never achieved consistent success in Britain or America, though she has fared better in Germany. This compilation includes all Bonnie's British and American hits and a selection of her other songs.
The hits include Lost in France, More than a lover, It's a heartache, Married men, Total eclipse of the heart, Faster than the speed of night, Have you ever seen the rain, A rocking good way (with Shaking Stevens), Holding out for a hero and Loving you is a dirty job.
The track that Bonnie's committed fans will want this album for is Tyre tracks and broken hearts - it doesn't appear on any of Bonnie's original albums but is taken from Andrew Lloyd Webber's Whistle down the wind.
Of the other non-hits, I was particularly pleased to find Bitterblue included. This was a German hit in the early nineties and sparked a revival in Bonnie's career in continental Europe, especially Germany. Goodbye to the island, the title track of her last RCA album, is another excellent choice. Straight from the heart was not a UK hit but was probably a hit somewhere and deserves inclusion. Piece of my heart, Making love out of nothing at all and My guns are loaded are all great songs, superbly performed by Bonnie, but I would have preferred Islands (a Mike Oldfield track featuring Bonnie as vocalist), Louisiana rain (my favorite among her unsuccessful RCA singles) and The best (a Bonnie Tyler original recording that failed to chart until Tina Turner covered it, when it became a major worldwide hit - you may know it as Simply the best).
Despite my reservations, this is a very strong collection, which provides a great introduction to Bonnie's music. There are plenty of other compilations around so any other tracks that you want (including Islands, Louisiana rain and The best) are easy to find if you want them.
Piece of My Heart
Bonnie Tyler is one of the greatest country artists ever. Her style is quite near pop and rock, just like Shania Twain's style. This album is a great clipse to her early carriere when she was really popular. There's quite few songs sung in 90's. The songs in this album are mainly from 70's and 80's. The album starts with a major hit ballad "Total Eclipse of the Heart". It must be one of the best songs in the whole wide world. It charted number 1 in many countries. The other great songs like "It's a Heartache", "Lost in France", "Faster Than the Speed of Night", "More Than a Lover", an upbeat song "Holding Out for a Hero", "Bitterblue" etc. make sure that your musical experience is fulfilled. "Piece of My Heart" and "More Than a Lover" are really sad songs and that's why I like them so much. Bonnie Tyler's voice is just like made for sad love songs. She can also sing very well great rock songs "Tyre Tracks And Broken Hearts", "A Rockin' Good Way", and "Holding Out for a Hero".
Stars: Total Eclipse of the Heart, Holding Out for a Hero, More Than a Lover, Faster Than the Speed of Night, It's a Heartache
