Description: The only Christmas album ever recorded by this much-loved--and tragically short-lived--singer contains some of his most majestic vocal performances, spotlighting qualities only hinted at on his pop releases. The disc--augmented for CD release by the never-before-released "Christmas Auld Lang Syne"--is given over largely to traditional hymns that bring the season's spiritual meaning to the fore. Darin performs pristine versions of "Ave Maria," "Holy Holy Holy," and a brace of other sanctified songs, punctuating the proceedings with renditions of more uptempo gospel-flavored numbers like "Go Tell It on the Mountain." Ideal Christmas morning listening for the whole family. --David Sprague

Reviews:

Mr. Darin Was A Unique and Special Talent

A wonderful Christmas album. Darin sang the definitive version of "Auld Lang Syne." Great phrasing, mellow voice. A beautiful collection of eclectic Yuletide songs. Bobby was one of the all-time greats. With all due respect, Frank and Tony lucked out on December 23, 1973.

Must have to your Christmas collection!!!

All I can say it's wonderful. The first time I heard it was so glad I got it. I love the standard christmas songs but the variety in this cd is a welcome surprise. Makes me kinda sad this is the only one he did.

The 25th Day of December

I've been a Bobby Darin fan since my early teens, and loved rocking to hits like "Splish Splash", "Mack the Knife", down thru "Multiplication"; however, his Chirstmas Album (CD), his only one is really special. Darin uses his God gifted talents in singing and bringing praise and love to such Christmas classics as "Ave Maria", "Silent Night", "Dona Nobis", "While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks". He also changes gears in his presentation by singing American classics such as "Go Tell It on the Mountain", "Jehovah Hallelujah", "Mary Where Is Your Baby", "Pacem".

One of my very favorites, which in my opinion truly highlights this Christmas CD is Darin's version of "Auld Lang Syne". What a beautiful Christmas / Holiday tribute by a star that left us all too soon while he was still in his thirties. In closing, an interesting "tidbit" of info on Darin's version of "Auld Lang Sine", it was said that Elvis Presely loved it as well, and was known to have played it repeatedly at his home during the Christmas and New Years' holiday season.

For those who enjoy a different but classic and unique Christmas CD that you and the whole family will enjoy, I recommend buying this one!
