Great music, be carefull about this whole SACD thing

Chances are you wouldnt even be considerring spending this kind of money for a bob dylan collection if you weren't already a fan, so I don't need to say how good the music is.

prior to purchasing this box set I had never heard of SACDs, so I did only basic research to figure out what the deal was. I don't own a SACD player, so I was relieved to find out that hybrid SACDs supposedly play on all cd players. However, everyone seems to fail to mention that this does not include the cd drive of my computer. Apparently this is not universal, some computers play them just fine; others, like mine, get confused by the SACD layer and never play the regular cd layer. This is not an isolated problem, check online forums about SACDs... this is a very common complaint.

The box set probably deserves 4 stars, but I want to make people aware of this and most people scan the low ratings to find out what's wrong...

Unbelievable - strange but true!

Fortunately Under the Red Sky referenced above is not included in this set. What is included is simply great - the only negative comments I have are the sound on John Wesley Harding isn't what it should be and Planet Waves just isn't one of his greatest albums. (I'm not a big Slow Train fan either, but I understand that many are).

The sonic upgrade of most of the titles compared to the original Columbia releases is easily heard, especially on the SACD layer. If you're a Dylan fan, it's worth upgrading your system just for this one set.

Now we can only hope that another wave will eventually appear that includes Bob Dylan, World Gone Wrong, and all of the Bootleg Series releases. The chances seem slim as you can already see the "regular" cd remasters replacing the SACDs in stores.
