Reviews:

Barry gets back in the mix

By 1991 Barry had returned to the scene with two comeback albums `The Right Night & Barry White' (1987) and `The Man Is Back' (1989), and although my man hadn't yet enjoyed major sales, these were impressive albums. `Put Me In Your Mix' re-established him to some extent, the eerie sounding title tracks plea & killer violin loop put Barry back at #1 on the R&B charts. There's other strong stuff here, `For Real Chill' also rides an instantly catchy groove, and Barry hooks up with none other than Isaac Hayes for the closing 10 minute slow jam `Dark & Lovely'. `Volare' is bright & cheery, and finds The Maestro exercising his foreign tongue, and closes off the first half. Like his previous album, side one seems to be more upbeat, and with `Put Me In Your Mix' side two seems to be darker and more slowed down. I really dig `Who You Giving Your Love To'. Barry captures the feeling of being secretly in love with a complete stranger you see everyday perfectly.

By 1991 The Maestro was 46 yrs old and once again it reflects with the experience & depth in his lyrics. Its cool how when he initially came back in 87 a lot of the young bucks who were outselling him had already vanished from the scene. `Put Me In Your Mix' builds on the foundation he laid with his previous two albums & this is a cool effort.

For Real Chill

"For Real Chill" is the balm. Audiophile will appreciate Big Bodacious Barry's creativity on this one. The tune is captivating from different musical angles. The song is full, very harmonious, much energy and drive. You will find yourself replaying "For Real Chill" over and over again to capture various synthesized instruments and tropical rythmns.
Some of the background synthesizing create a merry-go-round at the fair or carnival effect. ...
