Reviews:

classic Barry !!

I heard the song "How did you know" in 1980 in a disco in Frankfurt Germany and i've never forgoten it since. The horns, bass, and piano riffs are irresistable. I bought the cd years later and loved not only that song but ALL of the cuts.
"once upon..." is great with lush trademark backing vocals and
once again, killer arrangements. you cant go wrong with this one.

Fair Barry is Better than No Barry at All!

Released by 20th Century Records after White left the label, I Love to Sing the Songs I Sing" is not one of White's best. Most of the songs are of average quality, but White is such a master musician that even his non-hit stuff is infinitely better than most of his contemporaries and predecessors.

I Love to Sing the Songs I Sing

I bought this CD in 1981; at that time, it was actually an 8-track tape, and I played it until it fell apart. Granted, it's not as sensual or passionate as the music BW has written for lovers, etc., but the album still stands as a testimony to the fact that BW is perhaps, in my opinion, one of the top 2 or 3 black musicians/songwriters of all time, if not thee all-time greatest. I have always loved music, and when I listen to the clips from this album, I am whisked away to the first time I listened to these songs, and I am reminded of how original they were then and still are--it's not that garbage you hear on the radio now or days that all sounds the same, regardless of whether the artist is black or white. BW has always had a distinctive sound and style and I am glad that he has kept his own place in musical history instead of making music just to make money or to be popular. I still think his best work was produced and created during the 70's and 80's; that was the first time I ever heard any of it--I was a teenager at the time--and it is still stuck in my head. If you are looking for funk, this is not it; if you are looking for music strictly for lovers, this is also not what you are looking for, but if you just like to listen to music--good music--with a little bit of this and a little bit of that, buy this CD!!!
