A total classic, and I'll take a polygraph test...

Next time somebody claims to hate Barry Manilow, see if they'll take a polygraph test to that effect (see my review of Ultimate Manilow). If they refuse, strap 'em into a chair and make them listen to this album.

I confess I only came to this overlooked (by some of us) 1984 work of genius after hearing When October Goes on Ultimate Manilow. The man is a class act and this is easily one of his best albums ever. I know some of you guys reckon it's THE best, and I'm not sure I'd argue with you.

Certainly a side of the Man that will confound his sternest critics. A beautiful mature, jazzy album to play when you are snuggled up on the couch with that special person. Unfortunately mine is down there in Arizona, dang it.

Ideal Album To Play In A Coffeehouse!

After 25 Top 40 hits on the Billboard pop charts from 1975 to 1983, Barry decided to change pace with this album. He states that this is the album why he got into the music business in the first place. As a fan of jazz, this is a well-constructed album even if it did not sell as expected.

Sarah Vaughan, Gerry Mulligan, among others are featured in this album. I always enjoyed listening to Sarah's music and she does a great job with Barry.

If you bought "Ultimate Manilow" and enjoyed "As October Goes", then you will like this album. As stated in my title, if I owned a coffehouse I would make sure I have this album along with Sarah's box set! Essential for all Barry and/or jazz music fans!

The Masterpiece with TRUE LOVE inside

First time I've heard this precious musical album more than 10 years ago. I've got a so-so recorded tape and enjoyed it, playing it several times a day...
It is not only jazz... It is a true story of love. Every track makes tears appear in your eyes and you cannot resist strong feelings deep in your heart.
My best song is "When October Goes". When I first listened to it the picture appeared in my mind so clear, so beautiful and realistic. After the song end I was several minutes like in paradize and maybe somewhere in this smoky sweet Paradize Cafe.
Like we Russians say - the inside of my heart jumped out and refused to go back for these precious minutes of listening...
Only best poets and musicians (Barry is no doubt one of the best) can so precisely create a masterpiece, which once heard cannot be forgotten.
This is OUR WHOLE LIFE in a small CD. Every time I listen to it I find more and more in it.

I bought the album simply because I love Barry. If, however, you like jazz this one's for you!
