Description: Self-professed skate punk Avril Lavigne sings that she'd "rather be anything but ordinary" on her debut. While the fact that she had a record deal by the age of 16 separates her from the pack, too often Let Go's lyrical shortcomings drag the teenager's musically impressive recording entrée into the realm of the typical. The catchy choruses of Go are substantial, though, thanks to Lavigne's riff-driven melodies and powerful vocals, which at times adopt the unorthodox intonation quirks of fellow Canadian Alanis Morrissette. The nuanced, dynamic "Losing Grip," "My World" (which perfectly captures the ennui of suburbia), and the buoyant power-pop blast "Sk8er Boi" are the collection's highlights. But Lavigne's honest yet awkward words weigh down the likes of "Mobile," "I'm with You," and "Naked." "Nobody's Fool," which displays her Pink-like take-me-as-I-am credo, hints that someday Lavigne's lyrics will match the strength of her music. --Annie Zaleski

Reviews:

Avril rocks!

A little bit disappointed becuz this CD is pretty much the same as her first one-'let go'. but it's great to collect if you are a huge fan of avril, this cd contains some bonus tracks which are live and never released before. 'Why' is probably the best track in the cd i reconkon, it is a great song to play with on the guitar!! Also the video of 'losing grip' is pretty damn good! buy this album to make your collection!!
peace!

Not even worthy of a 1, a totally juvenile piece of trash

Warning: This review is intended for mature audiences only. ... OK, now that all the seventh-graders have left... I only had to read three or four reviews to gather proof that pretty much only the twelve-and-under crowd: a.) actually like this garbage, and b.) take the time to review this garbage. Actually, a thirty-something friend of mine actually bought in to Avril's "teen pop-punk-wannabe-princess masquerading as an angst-filled adolescent" so-called "music"(shame on him) and he burned me a copy just to let me hear it. I decided, OK, I'll be fair, let's give it a chance, see what it's like. After six or eight songs in I ripped that evil disc out of the player and chucked it out the nearest window. What a load of crap. I'm 99 percent certain that some slimey record executive (who would have to be a marketing genius to have successfully foisted this little twit upon us) knew that the world wouldn't want another Brittany or Christina (guess I was wrong, we got Jessica and Ashley), so he invented this weird "persona" for Avril just so she could sell. And sold she has, as in sold-out. Just look at how many magazine covers her face has graced. No matter what you call it or how you dress it up, it's just a bad product. Stay as far away from this one as humanly possible.

Queen of Poseurs

She can say she's punk all she wants. She can go wear a tie all she wants. She can win all the awards she wants. She can let other people write most of her music all she wants. She can grab the attention of 7th graders all she wants. She can also grab my brother's attention all she wants. She can pretend that her songs are really hers and that she wasn't massively aided by people in the studio. (Look at the insert, "written by Lavigne and... [Insert name here]). She can also say that she plays the guitar. Looking at the music videos she doesn't really, or plays as least amount of chords as possible. Well that sums up a lot of it. Oh yeah, she can say she doesn't suck when in reality, we've already heard this before and it SUCKS VERY VERY VERY HARD. She can also say this isn't cliché, but I think you can guess what I can say about that.

She sucks

Listening to my review in musical format would be much more tolerable than listening to Avril Lavigigngne's "music".

The Biggest Thing EVER!!!

The CD is like, AMAZING! The Notebook includes lyrics, a diary and some reeeely cool pics! I JUST LOVE IT! The Aussies did a great job! Every song on the album is good except Too Much To Ask, it is kinda bad.

ANYWAYS; I RECOMMEND THIS TO EVERY BIGGER AVRIL FAN, not bigger than me, though... :)

What is the world coming to?

Avril Lavigne is punk? That's like calling Mozart gothic. Usually, punk isn't mainstream and doesn't get played on every 'pop' radio station. Why listen to real punk bands when we have Avril Lavigne? Her website describes her as "A skater-punk", and that's what she claims to be in some of her interviews, so why does she sound more like Charlotte Church than Brody Armstrong? I have read a lot of reviews for this album, and a lot say she's punk. If she is, then what are 'The Misfits', 'Rancid', or ' 'NOFX'? I would have no problem with Avril if she just admitted she was pop and didn't sing songs about "Sk8er Boi"s (why not just call it 'Skater Boy' anyway?). She's turning punk into a fashion statement, not a genre of music. My final problem with her is the band. I think she's greedy taking all of the credit. Why not have the name so it focusses on the whole band, or at least "The Avril Lavigne Band".

Those comments were based mainly on the artist, and would be better in a section called "Avril Lavigne in general" instead of on her album let go, and they removed this review last time, for that reason, so here is what I think of her "Let Go" album:

The music isn't great either. She makes those really annoying pop songs (yes they are) that get on everyone's nerves after a few listens. She has a really high pitched voice and whenever she comes on the radio I change the station. The guitarring is alright, but no great solos or anything that blow me away. It's as processed as anything you'll hear on a Christina Agulaira or Britney Spears CD. Her lyrics are similar to anything you'll find on a Christina Agulaira or Britney Spears CD, except for "Sk8er Boi", which tries to be extreme as possible.

So if you're looking to buy a good CD, buy something else.
