Reviews:

A Good Review

everybody hertz.

i remember hating this release too. it was cheap when i bought it, so i didn't care much. it being years later now, i think it truly deserves a second listen.

first off, there's a neptunes remix on this thing; don't be light. which was out before they're (~)household-name like status these days.

the oizo mix of 'light' is fantastic. when beck comes in, the beat is more than addictive.

i admit that jack lahana's remix is over the top.

but the modjo cover of people in the city does a good job in helping make up for it. it's a lounge track, sort of, with full instrumentation and a lush breakdown.

listen again. or respect their process as innovaters.

Average, At Best

"Everybody Hertz" is an EP consisting mainly of remixes of the track "Don't Be Light" from the full-length "10,000Hz".

First of all, the CD version is the best mix of the song out there. On this EP, the first track is an edit of that version, and consequently, the best mix of it.

All the other mixes are average to lousy.

Mr. Ozio's mix is a minimal Kraftwerkian disaster that isn't worth much after the novelty wears off (which it does nearly immediately).

The Neptunes mix is sorely disappointing, considering their other work. Their mix here is boring, uncomfortable, and cheesy.

The Hacker Mix is the best of the mixes that deviate from the original, resembling a new wave/industrial approach reminiscent of Depeche Mode or Yaz. Fans of 80s synth will enjoy.

The Malibu Mix is decent, also a sort of throw back to late 80s synth, sounding like a mix of typical Air and maybe Basement Jaxx.

"People in the City" is also mixed twice here. The Modjo Version takes a Jamiroquai-style approach, while Jack Lahana explores a Beck-ian slant which is pleasantly crude.

"The Way You Look Tonight" is totally out of place here, just a typical average, though overall good, Air track.

skip this at all costs

the remixes are just horrible... enough said...

problem is the last song 'the way you look tonight' may be one of their best... still, don't waste your money on this!
