Reviews:

A Sweet Taste of Aerosmith

From the opening of the album, there's no doubt that Steven Tyler is back and singing his considerable lips off. Not quite as hard as some of their earlier releases, with "Nine Lives" Aerosmith makes their most radio-friendly album in years.

There are several standout songs on this one, including the opening title track and the beautiful ballads "Falling in Love" and "Hole in my Soul". The exotic "Taste of India" and the strangely sexual "Pink" also received significant air-time, and the entire album fed off the success of the previous "Get a Grip" recording.

My only gripe with the album is some of the weaker tracks later in the lineup... although not bad they're just not up to the level the album starts off with, and took me a few more listens to become accustomed to. Needless to say, the 3 or so weaker tracks don't detract significantly from the album, and when Aerosmith is on they are absolutely fantastic.

All told, it's a very enjoyable record from a group I've come to expect a lot from over the years. Aerosmith has matured as much as they're capable of, and grown into their role as Rock'n'Roll icons. Their almost childlike enjoyment of all things carnal is definitely in evidence here, so whenever you're in need of a positive "Attitude Adjustment" just pop this disc in and let it roll.

Cats Aren't Like This...

I read somewhere on the "Just Push Play" reviews that that was the strangest Aerosmith album. Nope. "Nine Lives" is. While Play was experimental, Nine is simply mental.

I'm an AeroNewbie starting to follow them after Get A Grip. I fell for Tyler's super-innuendo, hyper-rhyming lyrics that were some of the best I'd ever heard. Years ago, the single Falling in Love caught my attention and here we are today with this review. I've given this album years of my life and it still hasn't really improved.

The beginning of the album rocks. The first four tracks are wonderful. Come Full Circle (forgive the pun), Tyler starts allowing the post-production to take over, throwing in sound effects on the songs. Ain't That a Bitch is a sequel to Crazy, in my opinion, and that ain't that bad. But then I skip tracks 8, 9, and 10. These are a mess. Nothing else. A disaster. And the rest of the album is uninspired and trite.

Except for Pink. This is by far the best track and pushed my rating up to 3 stars.

Don't give up hope! Some people may find this album great, but I highly recommend Just Push Play over this one any day.

Don't waste one of your nine lives listening to this album

Don't waste one of your nine lives listening to this album. If you're not a cat then you have even more to lose. This is not one of Aerosmith's better albums. Whilst granted there is some nice artwork in the CD cover the actual CD hasn't had much work put into it at all. There are no songs on here that could be deemed classics. It's pretty hard to even say any of them are worthwhile having on as background music. This album is very disappointing being that Aerosmith have created so many huge hits and great albums.
