Bad in the saddle
Like Aerosmith? Me too. Like Aerosmith early days? Me too. But this album is not for me. Poor cover versions of James Brown and The Beatles, awful "Back in the saddle", terrible "Train kept on rolling" and sick "Sick as a dog" made me sick of it. Easier to mention the good titles: "Lord of things" is made here much better than in "Get your wings"; "Walk this way" is also good and "Dream on" is great. Nothing more to write about, besides the bad sound recording. Poor album of a good band.
Had to have it on CD
Have the record, always enjoyed it compared with the newer live cd's out there. Seen them 3 times, although I wish they would do more of the older classics. The older classics they do in concert are usually the same 6 or so songs, Dream On, Walk This Way, Sweet Emotion, Mama Kin, etc. This cd, although right about when everything seemed to be burning out, draws classics out of the closets and cutting room floor and brings me to a concert I wish I was old enough at the time to see. Overall, a must have ! There is a hidden classic Aerosmith song on this release that is worth noting: "Draw The Line" and it is not listed on the cd and/or the cd cover.
Vintage Aerosmith Just Passing It's Peak
I'm not really one for live albums but at the same time i'm not one for over produced sap either. This vintage era Aerosmith recording finds the boys rocking out at a time when the band was imploding with complete excessive disregard. And to tell you the truth it shows at some points on the record. Some of the songs sound pretty sub-par as if the band was forced on stage(which was the case at some of their concerts from the 70s)or just plain non-enthusiastic.For example,"Last Child",one of A'smith's best songs,is butchered by some odd guitar scratches which do appear on the actual record, but don't seem to assist the song live..Don't get me wrong though,"Toys In The Attic" is a blistering raunch fest for the ears and could even surpass the studio version."Mama Kin" maintains the same headbangin' riff from their debut with a tad bit more intensity."Train..." features heavy, high voltage rhythm guitar and drum work."Chip Away..." holds its ground thanks to the dirty riff of Joe Perry and sleazy vocals delivered by Tyler.Other tracks of note include "Walk This Way"(talk-box is used here, don't know why but it works) and "Sick As A Dog".
*By the way, when is Aerosmith going to release a live DVD of their concerts from the 70s?Now that is what people want to see!The shows where they played baseball and football stadiums! The gigs where they played with Van Halen and AcDc!Cmon,we're hungry for it!
