Description: Drug addiction couldn't stop them, nor could the ascension of alterna-rock and the process of aging. Not only are Aerosmith still together, but they're still recording hit singles. Since their formation in the early '70s, the band has scored a multitude of platinum albums and Top 40 hits. Moreover, Aerosmith remain a flamboyant, energized live band capable of recapturing that magical, sexual endorphin rush of youthful rock & roll abandon. Yup, on a good night, seeing Aerosmith is like experiencing your first time all over again. So it comes as no surprise that this band's double live disc is no mere trip down memory lane. Vocalist Steven Tyler still sounds raw, untamed, and on-key, shrieking as passionately as ever and reaching notes Robert Plant and Ozzy Osbourne would sell their kidneys for. And guitarist Joe Perry's bluesy, blustery rhythms and piercing solos still echo with passion and hunger. The first disc is a bit bogged down with '90s material, but the band performs stellar versions of "Love in an Elevator," "Livin' on the Edge," "Cryin'," and "Janie's Got Gun." It's the second disc that really sizzles, as the Toxic Twins dip into their drug-addled past and unleash monsters such as "Back in the Saddle," "Dream On," and "Sweet Emotion." Get your rocks off!

Reviews:
Aerosmith-The Greatest Live Band Ever!
They may be one of the top 5 bands ever- this is hardcore rock and roll, you got the legendary songs that gave Aerosmith its spot as one of the top bands of the 70's such as Sweet Emotion, Walk This Way, and Dream On. You have the powerful ballads that brought Aerosmith back from the rock and roll gutter such as Angel, Cryin', Crazy, What It Takes,Amazing, and Hole In My Soul . And you have timeless hits that anyone would just want to stop what they're doing and get up and dance to such as Mama Kin, Same Old Song And Dance, Rag Doll, and Dude(looks Like A Lady). The only songs that were left out were Full Circle (i guess im the only one who really thinks that song kicks ass), Pink, Toys in the Attic, and Draw the Line. Other than that, this is a must have for any Aero Fan
Best album Aerosmith has cut since Rocks.
I'm serious, all their albums between Rocks and a Little South of Sanity are very mediocre. Listen to the track Same Old Song and Dance, it really kicks!
I had to give up on this one
Great track list on "A Little South Of Sanity". I'm quite fond of Aerosmith, and I bought this double live album right after it came out. I listened to it several times, and then I sold it on eBay.
I just couldn't come to terms with this CD...the noise of the crowd is way too prominent in the mix, which also manages to be both cluttered and slick, sanding away all of the grit.
Sure, there are many great songs here, but they're all swamped by the hideous production. There is no separation, and the sound is just not realistic, it's synthetic and flat, and I never got to terms with it.
Weird, noisy album. And not in a good way. Go for "Live Bootleg" instead, that one sounds like a REAL live recording.
I think this cd rox!
I luv Aerosmith sooo much! When i bought this, I wasn't sure if it would be any good because a lot of live cds are no good~ but this one was terrific! I'm so used to listening to the live versions of songs now, that when i hear one on the radio i think i actually like the live one better! This cd is absolutley fabulous! Any and Every Aerosmith fan should go out and buy this~ it's an absolute MUST in your collection!!!
Kicks @ss!!
This Ladies and Gentlemen is why Aerosmith has stayed
at the top for oh so long. There are ltos of other good
and great rock groups... But almost none of them can
give you a double CD that is this good.
I will not lie, there are some songs on here I don't
care for such as "Eat The Rich" "Hole In My Soul"
"Cryin" and "Crazy" as the main ones. But the 70's
and a great deal of the 80's stuff sounds great
here. The truth is while the band sounds great
you can tell that some songs Steven really shines
and some the rest of the band shines.
After you get past the below average you get to
one of the better Aerosmith 80's songs "Love In
An Elevator" and it's one songs the band all
shines. It sounds just about as good as the
studio version. Then we got to "Falling In
Love" which is a fairly good tune considering
it's a ballad. But then we get to one of classics
in "Same Old Song And Dance" and Brad/Joe just
cook on this tune!
Here it starts to sputter just alittle bit as
we get alittle drugged down by the poor mans
Dream On. This one should have been left off
in favor of "Train Kept Rollin" or "Draw The
Line" and it's pretty much the same with
"Livin On The Edge" but luckly we get the
hard rocker "Monkey On My Back" in between
those two mediocre songs. It's not on par
with the stuff on disk two, but it's still
a great rocker.
We then get down to another ballad with
"Cryin" which really isn't a bad song
music wise, but the lyrics are just
alittle to whiney for my taste. But it
is a good enough tune to play every once
and a while. "Rag Doll" is up next and
it just rocks! I honestly prefer this
live version over the studio version and
while some old school fans might not like
it, it IS a Aerosmith classic and Steven
really shines and shows off that age hasn't
taken his voice away.
When the get to "Angel" a song that seems
to be hated by old school fans. However, I
think this is a great ballad. There really
is nothing wrong with a ballad every once
and a while and "Angel" is one the ballads
that do sound as good live as it does in
the studio.
The live version of "Janie's Got a Gun" is
really great! It really helps give a boost to
the weaker half of the album. Like "Angel"
Steven sounds great! Listening to the song more,
I think this is also better than the studio
version!
Amazing is another song that really doesn't
belong. Just another ballad on a disk that
has a few too many of them. Sick As A Dog or
even one of the Vacation songs could have
went here.. Or maybe even Adam's Apple!
2.5 out of 5
Now this is where the action really starts!
One of the better versions of "Back In The
Saddle" that I have ever heard! The whole
band just smokes and the old Aerosmith
starts to show up after lots of weeping
on disk one. Tyler plays to the crowd abit
before the smoking intro hits! Steve really
lets go and starts his pattened screaming
and it's just amazing how he hits these
notes! Just amazing!
We then get to one of the real highlights of
the album! Whitford really tears it up on this
tune! He takes the lead and boy does he do a
h*llva job! Last Child you can argue is the
best song on the album... And it's all thanks
to Brad. Truly underrated guitar player that
will leave you breathless with the power and
soul he puts into this song.
The Other Side is pretty much filler and isn't
worth talking about. Just skip it.
Coming of just hearing Brad Whitford tearing
it up on "Last Child" Joe Perry gets to take
charge with a pretty good version of "Walk On
Down" which is a nice addition to the disk.
Some might enjoy Joe as singer and some might
not... I really enjoy it and want to hear him
sing more in the future.
When now get into the meat of Aerosmiths long
catalog with one of the best versions of "Dream
On" that you are ever going to here. This song
always manages to bring out some real emotion
in me and it does so here. The haunting music
sounds just as good as it does on any of the
studio versions and Steven shows off his voice.
Then you should just skip 'Crazy" and get onto
In my opinion the highlight of the album with
"Mama Kin" as this is the song it REALLY comes
together for the entire band. It's also happens
to be the best Tyler vocals you are going to
get! You can feel the entergy really pickup
in this song after coming off one of the
dreadful ballads. This will always be my
favorite Aerosmith tune. The band just
connects on every level on this song.
We then get to "Walk This Way" which to
be honest, it isn't one of my favorite
Aerosmith songs... But here it sounds
fresh that I have to listen to it over
and over again. Glad that Run DMC isn't
here=)
Then we get to a "Dude(Looks Like A Lady"
and it's also well done. It really is hard
to tell that this is live. It matches the
studio version every step of the way. And
now the album closes with Aerosmiths country
like "What It Takes" that is rock solid. It
isn't the filler tune that "The Other Side"
is and you might find yourself surprised if
you give it a chance.
Sweet Emotion closes the album in good fashion.
It is alittle slower than I really would like,
but even slowed down the band manages to keep
good entergy with it.
I'm honestly not a fan of these type of albums
at all... But one day I just had an itch that I
had to scratch so I picked this up. The first
disk really doesn't deliver and is inconsistant
due to a number of ballads. The music is good
even on the ballads. It's just they just don't
fit what Aerosmith truly is and that is easy
to tell. I feel the second disk makes this
album worthy of 5 stars by it's self. Songs
like LIAE,SOSAD,JGAG and such are just gravy
to a great second disk.
5 out of 5 stars.
Something's gotta give...
...But it certainly won't be the Bad Boys from Boston. This Masterpiece rocks for sure. Lacks only Taste of India, Pink and Round and Round, but that's my taste only. Let yerself a-roll, and use carefully. Causes addiction.
They're still "Livin' On The Edge".
A casual fan like myself might have been happy with one 15 track disc, but fanatics would be "Crazy" not to love this. 2 discs and 23 tracks of live Aerosmith. The sound is pretty good, or at least not bad enough to complain about. There's a wealth of 90's songs here, but at this point that is a big portion of their material. "A Little South Of Sanity" does have the hits covered pretty well, be they old or newer, and tosses in a few gems like "Mama Kin" and "Monkey On My Back" as well. Overall a good collection, and clearly proves that Aerosmith still has "What It Takes" to rock your socks off.
Three Decades of Hits
I bought this CD the day after I saw Aerosmith in concert. I saw them in 1990 and they were even better in 1999! I wanted something with all my favorie songs on it and that's what I found! I was a fan back in high school in the late 70's so not only does it have the big hits from back then it has some hits from the 80's and 90's. What more could you ask for. Any band that is still going this strong after three decades has got to be GREAT! If you're an Aerosmith fan you've GOT to get "A Little South of Sanity"!
WOW!
This Live CD is just outstanding! I was amazed at the quality that it shows! Is Aerosmith at its best! If you have never been to an Aerosmith concert, then buy this CD, and you'll just want to be there, with Aerosmith, on stage, between Steven and Joe!
