(10 stars) the best live album ever
ac/dc's '78 release if you want blood you got it is hands down the greatest live album ever(motorhead's no sleep 'til hammersmith comes second in my opinion), and arguably ac/dc's greatest release. these performances taken from their european powerage tour of '78, comprised of selections from the albums high voltage, dirty deeds..., let there be rock, and powerage capture ac/dc in all their sweaty, horny, raunchy, noisy, snotty heavy rock 'n roll attack. and of course this is bon scott singing not brian Johnson.from the moment phil rudd taaps his high hat and launches the albums opener "riff raff"(from powerage, buy that album as well) you are in for an air guitar session to the finest crotch rock god wishes he never invented. all the tracks scorch but especially riff raff, problem child, whole lotta rosie, let there be rock and rocker. buy this album or steal it. you need it in your collection.
Arguably AC/DC's greatest hour as a live band
AC/DC's classic live album If You Want Blood You've Got It was released in November of 1978.
The album was recorded in England during the band's 1978 world tour in support of their album Powerage and showed the band at their arguable peak. How is it(as I first heard it when my cousin bought me this album for Christmas on cassette in 1986 and I now have on CD), read on!
The album starts out with a raving audience cheering with a feedback noise. Then you hear the classic riff intro from lead axe-slinger Angus Young which goes into Riff Raff and Bon Scott sings on here like a man possessed!! We then go into a great rendition of Hell Ain't A Bad Place to Be which buries the studio counterpart by a longshot. Next is of the best songs off of Let There Be Rock which is Bad Boy Boogie and destroys the studio version. I know some of the track was edited but it was during Angus' infamous strip tease where it was just rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young, bass player Cliff Williams and drummer Phil Rudd just playing a riff over and over(some would have gone insame but I think long live songs rock)! We follow with The Jack which has different lyrics than the one on High Voltage and has more great raunch than the sterile studio reading. We end the first half with a spirited reading of Problem Child where Bon screams his best here and Angus plays like a demon possessed.
The second half of the album begins with a killer Whole Lotta Rosie and you can really feel Bon's vocals right there performing in front of you! Also, the rampaging crowd chants "Angus, Angus" during the beginning riffs. Next was the Powerage album opener Rock 'n' Roll Damnation which rocks and is better than the studio version. The title cut to their 1976 American debut High Voltage is next and is better than the studio version where Bon after the middle guitar solo gets the crowd to chant "HIGH", and on the fourth go round of the HIGH chant, Bon screams and the crowd screams back. We follow with Let There Be Rock which destroys the studio version and is more fast paced here and has a three minute guitar solo spot from Angus at the end of the track which proves he is the master of the Gibson SG as he plays it like a madman. We close out with a superb reading of Rocker as the song has more life here than on its sterile sounding studio reading.
When If You Want Blood was initially released, the album helped AC/DC gain a cult following but would hit past the Platinum mark in a few years time.
Today, this live album still stands as one of rock's greatest live albums!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
definetly a good album !
i"m not ac dc fan and this is not the best live album ( not "ever" and not released in 78` ( scorpions release in this year "tokyo tapes " was the best release even the best release " ever" . but this is definetly a good live album i remembered for good and bought it again 20 years after i got it on record.
the highlight in this album is " let there be rock " one of the best hard rock track made ever( especialy as a live track).
see this song in madrid 96` dvd ( no bull) and you will understand what i"m saying( and i"m not ac dc fan).
bon scott was better vocalist then brian johnson so in this live album ( 78`) you can enjoy his singing for the last time on live concert. angus ( the two brothers ) made a good job on " no bull" 96` live performance in madrid ecpicially in " let there be rock" and even brian johnson fit in. i realy enjoy the new processing in madrid but i also enjoy the first processing with bon scott ( the first singer).
classic ac dc album for all the time .
choose your coice and buy this for your collection.(in this days you can get this in acceptable price.

The Best AC/DC Live Album Ever
IF YOU WANT BLOOD (YOU GOT IT) is the best live album AC/DC ever did. It features Bon Scott in all of his raspy glory, and Angus Young's lead guitar drips with that good old Memphis-Chicago-Texas-St. Louis-Louisiana-Kansas City blues sound. The band is in a form here matched live only on the disc on BONFIRE from the movie LET THERE BE ROCK (not to be confused with the great studio CD/cassette of the same title, which I own). I highly recommend that you buy this on CD or cassette.
The best live album ever!!!
This album was released right around the time AC/DC was becoming popular in America. Most of this teeth kicking show was recorded in Scottland. The blistering opening of "Riff Raff" to the fast as hell show ender "Rocker" proves this album is worth every penny. The import version is sonically better than that of the american release. This is Bon Scott at his best!!
