Description: What Highway to Hell has that Back in Black doesn't is Bon Scott, AC/DC's original lead singer who died just months after this album was released. Scott had a rusty, raspy, scream of a voice, like he might break into a coughing fit at any moment. In other words, on crunchy, hook-heavy metal classics like the title track, and on "Get It Hot" which is more roadhouse rock than metal, he had the perfect instrument for such wild-living anthems. Too perfect, it turned out. --David Cantwell

Reviews:

Blows your balls off every time...

To start, I'm not a kid, I just don't like putting my info out there for "the man" to see. Anyway, the title track is what turned me on to AC/DC, and from then on its been nothin' but the best. Here's my track by track breakdown:

1.) Highway To Hell- The anthem of any rock-n-roller. Great riffing and that solo is hotter than Satan's boxers in July. 10/10

2.) Girl's Got Rhythm- Great rockin' tune, with a great riff and chorus. 10/10

3.) Walk All Over You- This is a great tune, with some pretty dirty lyrics. 9/10

4.) Touch Too Much- One of my least favorite on the album. Still good but almost sounds a little like 80's metal. 9/10

5.) Beating Around the Bush- Wow, Malcolm and Angus keep that riff so tight you'd think that was one guitar. I wish I could get my lead guitarist to play that in time with me... Anyway, 2nd fave on here! 10/10

6.) Shot Down In Flames- Super great song, rocks so hard and dammit I can relate...10/10

7.) Get It Hot- Good song, however can be a little repetitive. 9/10

8.) If You Want Blood(You've Got It) THE ALMIGHTY! This jam sends shivers down my spine, and adrenalin through my veins! 20/10!!

9.) Love Hungry Man- Least favorite on the album just because it seemed like a half assed effort. 7/10

10.) Night Prowler- Wow. Creepy lyrics, great riff, and that chorus is just awesome. 10/10

All in all, this is the best brick in the AC/DC sonic wall!

BON SCOTTS BEST AND LAST!" HEY MAMA LOOK AT ME!"

IM ON THE HIGHWAY TO HELL!THIS ALBUM IS WHAT ROCK IS ALL ABOUT! NIGHT PROWLER IS A VERY UNDER RATTED SONG. WALK ALL OVER YOU DOES JUST THAT!I OWN THE ALBUM WITH THE FLAMES ON IT BEST ALBUM COVER EVER! AC/DC WENT DOWN HILL AFTER THIS . BON SCOTT WILL ALWAYS BE A GOD!! 2 ME 666!!!!!!!!

Classic farewell to Bon Scott over 25 years on

AC/DC released their fifth(if you are from the US, Canada and Japan) or sixth(everywhere else in the world) album entitled Highway to Hell in July of 1979.

Highway to Hell was recorded as the band was coming off their triumphant breakthrough in 1978 as Powerage and the live If You Want Blood You've Got It was helping the band gain a following in the US.

In January of 1979, the band decided to go to a recording studio in London, England instead of Australia with former Outlaws producer Robert John "Mutt" Lange and record the album that would fianlly break AC/DC open in the US. The result is pure AC/DC. Great raunch rock at its finest!

We open with the classic rock radio staple Top 100 charting title cut. The title cut celebrates the life of being in a rock and roll band although some saw this song as AC/DC being devil worshippers(what a laugh). Next is another great rock radio gem Girls Got Rhythm which is a great rocker. Walk All Over You is next and it sounds like it will be a slow song before we launch into an assault of fast riffs from Angus and Malcolm Young and a killer Bon Scott vocal and a great Angus Young guitar solo. Touch Too Much is next and was AC/DC's second US Top 100 charting single and a great rocker. We end the first half with the punkish sounds of beating Around the Bush which was originally called Back Seat Confidential before a name change was in order.

We begin the second half with the killer Shot Down in Flames which has become a rock radio staple and is a great song all around. Get it Hot follows and is a great over two and a half minute or so song. Short and right to the point. We follow with the rocker If You Want Blood, You've Got It and was named after their live album from 1978. The song is a great rocker. We follow with the pulsating rock of Love Hungry Man which is a great song. The last track is the spooky Night Prowler which would cause some controversy a few years later when an AC/DC hat was worn by "the Night Stalker", a murderer who used AC/DC as a scapegoat for his evils. The song, ironically enough, was about what teenagers used to do, sneak out of their windows to their boyfriend/girlfriend's house whilst the parents were asleep. The ending humorous Robin Williams sign off from Mork and Mindy that Bon did was eerily Bon's sign off from the band as he would pass away in February of 1980.

Bon was at his best on his last album and you really have to listen to what's not played on the radio to understand how great he was.

Highway to Hell became AC/DC's first US Top 20 charting album and first Gold and Platinum seller in the US solidifying AC/DC's place in rock as a great rock band.

Today, the album still sounds competent over 25 years on, especially in its digitally remastered edition.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Great Album but NOT the Best AC/DC Album out there

While I highly and I mean highly recommend this album to most everyone who loves powerful chords and a great vocalist with a high pitched voice, this album is by far NOT the best AC/DC album. This album, in my opinion of course, is the 3rd best AC/DC album. The best AC/DC album has got to be and will always be Back in Black with High Voltage a well deserved 2nd. After doing some research Back in Black is the 3rd best selling album of all time behind the greatest hits of the Eagles and The Wall by Pink Floyd. Numbers don't lie Back in Black is by far the greatest album AC/DC has put out.

Highway to Hell

AC/DC's 1979 album "Highway To Hell" marked the end of one era and the beginning of another. Regretfully, this was the last album recorded with original singer Bon Scott, who died in February of 1980. On the other hand, this album marked the beginning of AC/DC's collaboration with producer Robert John "Mutt" Lange, who would catapult AC/DC into the realm of being one of the most successful rock'n'roll bands in history.

Mutt crafted accessible, crystal-clear hard rock/heavy metal records for AC/DC, Def Leppard, and a bunch of other bands, and even a casual listener can tell that this album is much different than AC/DC's previous work, especially the 1978's gritty "Powerage." Part of me will always insist that AC/DC's previous work is where they shined the brightest (and that part of me will point out that "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" is their best, and certainly most emotionally diverse [thanks to "Ride On"] album in their career), but part of me wants to say that "Highway to Hell" is really the pinnacle of their career, and even though EVERYONE will go on and on about "Back in Black," it just doesn't stand up to this. "Highway to Hell," simply put, is the album that you throw on to completely rock out and lose your mind to. It's the stuff of jukebox legend. It's the band that just won't leave the stage even though it's last call and you have to be at work at 5 AM.

If someone was to force me to write out a list of my 100 favorite songs of all time, five would come from this disc - "Highway to Hell," "Touch Too Much," "Shot Down in Flames," "If You Want Blood (You've Got It)," and "Night Prowler." On a "per hit" basis, you really can't go wrong with taking that trip down the "Highway."

Shazboz Nano-Nano Simply the Best and Last of Bon!

This is simply one of the best albums that Bon even did with AC/DC! Angus' solos are incredibly all the way through the whole cd starting with Highway to Hell and ending with the controversial Night Prowler. If you listen very hard...at the end of night prowler, bon says "Shazboz Nano-Nano." This line was taken from Robin Williams from his show "Mork and Mindy". Bon was a huge Robin Williams fan. That line means that you are siging off. And Bon added that in just for a joke. but he did not know thta he really was signing off with AC/DC and his life. A true collectors item. GO buy IT!!! It's great!

The One To Start With

Whereas I am not a revvered fan of AC/DC, this CD rates as their best to my ears. These hard rocking aussies still pack plenty of slam bam razors edge hard rock on this recording. However, many of the tunes have a catchy yet slick arrangement which sticks in your ear.

The first four songs are truly excellent. The opening riff on Highway To Hell is very captivating and the song stays very focused throughout. Girls Got Rhythm is a another super driving tune that hooks the listener. Walk All Over You and Touch Too Much keep the pace going.

The other tunes are certainly not bad. Love Hungry Man actually goes at a different pace than the rest of the tunes. And there are some good ellabroate gutiar solos that kick off Beating Around The Bush But the final track, Night Prowler closes the CD on a very high note. That tune certainly sets a scary note between the crunching gutiars and Bon Scott's gritty scary vocals. At least old Bon went out on a high note with his last recording.

You really have to like your rock n roll good and hard to appreciate AC/DC. However, its the focused tunes coupled with the clever arrangements by John "Mutt" Lange trell me that this is the AC/DC record to start with.

Top Album, Great Material, Great Goodbye

As an album to go out on, this is a top work.

At least 4 of the songs appear on THE FAMILY JEWELS collection.

Bon Scott produced great work with what he had, and the band gave the fans what they wanted.

The Remastered version is a brilliant work, and brings out clearly the edge Bon had in live form. The Remastered version also has a brilliant extra with the booklet, explaining the role Mutt Lange had with the band, and How eddie Kramer come close to working with this band.

No-one with any sort of rock sensibility will fail to enjoy this album. Its a brilliant work, and another piece that plays well at high volume.

The difference in the CD version can be easily heard on a 5.1 system, and you can play it with audible quality increase on most sound systems. The guitars rip through, and produce the most amazing feel you can know in an ACDC product.

ENJOY.
