Reviews:
Best AC/DC
I have only purchased 1 AC/DC album in my life. 1983's Flick of the Switch. To my knowledge, it has never been topped. I stumbled onto their best tape they ever made!!
One of the best kept secrets in rock and roll
AC/DC is a great band, no question about it. When you think of their great albums, you think of Back in Black, Powerage, and High Voltage. Flick of the Switch is not in that league, but...Flick of the Switch is still a great album. The thing about AC/DC is that they are such a good band that most of their albums are good, even their bad ones. My friend and I always thought that Flick of the Switch was one of the best kept secrets in rock and roll, along with Aerosmith's Draw the Line and The Who's Who by Numbers. All had no big hits and sales for these albums were par at best. Just give them all a listen and you'll agree. Some fine, rock tunes. Enjoy them all...
RAW POWER!!!!
WOW!,if you like AC/DC you'll love this album! This is one of those albums that is in that raw rock state. This was releaced in 1983 after the back to back scuces of BACK IN BLACK and FOR THOSE ABOUT TO ROCK.This is a great album from RISING POWER to the frantic album closer BRAIN SHAKE.Thease are songs you con boogi to,some of AC/DC's best. And the soloes,oh the soloes are aswem, and on songs like DEEP IN THE HOLE Angus sounds like he's ripping his strings out!All around,a mighty fine rock album!!
the best AC/DC album i heard so far
This is AC/DC at it's best. Once you listen to this album through a few times, you wont' be able to get these tunes out of your head.
The highly underappreciated AC/DC disc from classic lineup
AC/DC's album Flick of the Switch was released in August of 1983.
After finishing the tour in support of For Those About to Rock, AC/DC(guitarists Angus and Malcolm Young, bass player Cliff Williams, lead singer Brian Johnson and drummer Phil Rudd) began work on the follow-up to the US chart-topping Multi-Platinum smash For Those About to Rock We Salute You.
Since Mutt Lange wasn't available(as he was working with The Cars on Heartbeat City at the time), the members of AC/DC produced the album themselves with Back in Black engineer Tony Platt engineering for the first time since Back in Black. However, tensions between the Youngs and Rudd came to a head and Rudd's problem with alcohol and drugs(which his use increased after the death of AC/DC's second lead singer Bon Scott) caused him to be dismissed from the band after Flick was finished(he would not return to the band until 1994). How is Flick of the Switch, would the album be great or would it be tossed in the bargain bins. Read on and find out(as I did when I first got this album for my 15th birthday on cassette in January of 1991 then the remastered CD).
We begin the album with the rocker Rising Power which is one of the band's best tracks ever with a great Young brothers riff. We follow with This House is On Fire which is a faster paced rocker which rocks. Next is the album's title cut which was also the album's first and biggest single released to rock radio. That track is awesome. We follow with a slower rock track Nervous Shakedown which was the album's second rock radio released single and a great rocker. We end the first half with the fast paced rocker Landslide which kicks major ass.
We begin the second half with Angus warming up on the guitar leading into Guns for Hire which is arguably the album's best track. We follow with the slower paced but killer rocker Deep in the Hole. Next is another rock track Bedlam in Belgium which was a killer rocker. Badlands follows and was not a remake of the Bruce Springsteen track but an AC/DC original. We end the album with Brain Shake which was a great rocker and a killer song.
Flick of the Switch peaked at #15 and initially went Gold and eventually Platinum. Whilst #15 and Gold was respectable by 1983 standards, it was seen as a disappointment compared to the sales of the four AC/DC predecessors(Highway to Hell, Back in Black, Dirty Deeds and For Those About to Rock). Album sales and chart success notwithstanding, this album rocks and was the band's last great album until 1988.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
This Album Is Cool
I think this is a good album. My personal favorites are "Flick of the Switch", "Bedlam in Belgium", and "Rising Power". Bedlam in Belgium is my favorite on the whole album. I still like this entire album, though. Brian Johnson does not screech like he does in The Razor's Edge(1990). This is a must-buy for AC/DC fans.
