Reviews:

I love ABBA I do I do I do I do i do....

This was my very first ABBA cd and allthough my collection of ABBA cd's has grown the last couple of years this is still my favourite. It was an excellent introduction to ABBA's music regarding It has ABBA's most enjoyable songs on it like "Dancing Queen" , "Mamma Mia", "Super Truper"...and many more. In addition it features rearities like the german version of "Ring Ring" , "waterloo" and "Another town another train" ("wer im wartesaal der liebe steht").Also a great feature on this Cd is that the songs are sorted from the earliest to the latest of their work which means (as many of you already know ) from the early days - mid years of the happiest loviest exciting disco-ish groovy get-up-out-of-your-seat-and-dance or just sit back and listen to the lovely relaxing sounds to the sadest of their songs like "The Day before you came" and "the winner takes it all" as the group slowly came to an end. It is a great CD and shows ABBA's talent and history.

I enjoy this cd a lot, and maybe you will too

The Definitive ABBA Collection!

This is not to be confused with the 27-disc box set containing all of ABBA's singles. It's a 2-disc set quite similar to the 1982 double set THE SINGLES: THE FIRST TEN YEARS, containing every song from that album plus many more. And this is arguably the best and most definitive ABBA collection yet! It not only has all of their big hits, like "Dancing Queen," "Take a Chance on Me," "Mamma Mia," and "Waterloo," but also secondary hits, such as "Eagle," "I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do," "Summer Night City," and "Honey Honey," all of which are gems. The hits are all in chronological order, and the songs are remastered in 24-bit sound (just like THE ABBA REMASTERS series). Other great news is that it contains the full versions of "The Name of the Game" and "Voulez-Vous," and despite what the back album cover suggests, this CD contains the full six-minute version of "Eagle," not the 4:23 single edit. Plus, the collection contains a handful of "bonuses": Since this is a German release (and that's not a complaint), it has the German versions of "Ring Ring" and "Waterloo" and a previously unreleased song, "Wer Im Wartesaal Der Liebe Steht" (German version of "Another Town, Another Train"), which are all interesting to hear, even though I don't speak German. It also includes "Happy New Year" (from the SUPER TROUPER album), which was released as a single in Germany, appropriately before the start of the new millennium, and is not available on GOLD, MORE ABBA GOLD, or the box set THANK YOU FOR THE MUSIC.

All of this adds up to a superb ABBA compilation. Every song here is great, with the possible exception of "Money, Money, Money," and there are no serious omissions. So, if you want only one ABBA album, or an album with all of their hits, this is the one to get. It's expensive since it's an import, but it's well worth it. If you're a U.S. fan and own (or want) all of their original albums, but don't want their B-sides or rarities, you should also get this, since some of their great singles, such as "Fernando," "Summer Night City," and "The Day Before You Came," were not released on their original albums. They were included as bonus tracks on imported versions of the remastered original albums, but were inexplicably omitted from the U.S. versions. Of course, if you're only marginally curious about ABBA, buy GOLD: GREATEST HITS (preferably the limited edition signature issue, which is in 24-bit sound).

ABBA wrote great singles and this compilation proves it. Granted, many of their album tracks are just as good, as their numerous compilations suggest, but the definitive compilation should stick to the singles. If you want to hear album tracks, buy some of their original albums. I recommend ARRIVAL, THE ALBUM, SUPER TROUPER, and ABBA for starters.

Anyway, great collection! Buy it today! You'll be glad you did!

Wonderful!

Finally a compilation of their hits that has the longer two verse version of The Name Of The Game. I also like the three German songs, especially Wer Im Wartesaal Der Liebe Steht (Another Town, Another Train) which I think sounds better than the English version.
