Description: Abba's success was, without a doubt, partly down to studio trickery--yet if this is the case, then why are Live's sonics so shimmering, so magical? The drum sound is heavy and full, the overall effect crystal clear and pristine. Harmonies are immaculate, melodies melt in your heart. Has "Does Your Mother Know" ever sounded so powerful? Was "Dancing Queen" really this infectious? The applause between tracks definitely helps the atmosphere, while both the opening, stuttering start to "Take a Chance on Me" and the piano-backed, over-the-top production on "Thank You for the Music" are simply spine tingling. --Everett True

Reviews:

ABBA Rock Live

Anyone who dismisses ABBA as a lightweight pop group will be blown away by "ABBA Live", the belatedly releasd live album by the Swedish foursome. Featuring 14 of the group's classic songs live in Australia, England and Sweden, the group rocks out and prove their live performance talents.

It is amazing to note that the songs here take on a life of their own and some even eclipse the already classic studio versions. This goes especially for the thrilling version of "Does Your Mother Know" presented here: loud guitars, pounding drums, screaming vocals - everything ABBA is not yet they make it their own. "Super Trouper" features a powerful vocal by Frida Lyngstad. "Waterloo" is greeted warmly and is some of the most exciting three minutes and thirty four minutes on record. "Eagle", paired with "The Name Of The Game", gets a long, extended and brilliant guitar solo usually saved for the most raucous Rolling Stones song,, thereby prooving that ABBA is a true rock and roll band.

I think this a cd that should be bought by all music fans. If their studio recordings didn't convince you, this cd will prove to you that ABBA was indeed one of the greatest band in music's existence.

Great Live Stuff - could have been more stuff

If you like Abba, you are going to love the live versions of their hits. This CD compiles songs from 3 tours - Australia - 1977, Wembley Arena - 1979, and Dick Cavett's TV Show in 1981. The quality of the music is great. A few things on the disappointing side:

1-Only 14 songs (actually 15 including a bridge between Name of the Game and Eagle). The Big Hits are on here. Many songs are missing, most notably is S.O.S (which I think is their best song) and Voulez-Vous.
2-The CD liner notes don't tell much other than titles, credits, and the locations of the Tour. It doesn't tell you what songs came from what Tours.

The live version of "Name of the Game and Eagle" is worth the price of this CD alone. Abba does an incredible job at bridging Name of the Game with Eagle. I was real glad to see that Eagle was included on here because it is one of the underrated ABBA songs.

This proves that ABBA is the best ever!!!

People who don't know felt ABBA was a studio tech band and had no live presence.

ABBA live proves that ABBA is the best band, EVER!!!
