Reviews:
Fun upbeat and stylistic '80s album
First time I heard a-Ha's Take on Me was on the Rate-A-Record segment on Dick Clark's American Bandstand in summer 1985. But never in my wildest dreams would I have thought that it would become a No. 1 hit in the fall of 1985 in America! I heard Hunting High and Low in the '90s and thought that it was a great, fun, upbeat and stylistic '80s album! A lot of this album is keyboard heavy, but they keep the live feel of a rock band in it. I heard the radio version of the title song, which had more of an orchestral feel, but the album version is very good and the lead singer sounds dramatic on it. Most of the songs are fast paced, but there's a tight rhythm section in their band. I like The Sun Always Shines on TV, perhaps a true definition of what 80s synth pop sounded like. It keeps a fast paced energy for most of its 4 minutes and 52 seconds! And Take on Me still sounds solid 20 years later in 2005--I heard it in a restaurant last month and it doesn't sound dated--it still gets me dancing like crazy to this day with its 100-mph pace! It's good to hear that the band still performs today some 20 years later, even if their later albums sold better overseas than here. They've got to be 40 or 45 or having gray hairs now, but this album is still their most creative and best!
Highly underrated Artwork
It is true that Ah-Ha never quite reproduced the freshness and orginality of "Hunting High and Low", but that by no means suddests they should be written off as one-hit wonders. This almbum contains some of the greatest synth arrangements of the 80's. While the two singles that this first album produced are both excellent in their own right, there is far more to discover throught the remaining 8 songs. "The Blue Sky", "Here I Stand and Face the Rain", and the album's title track are just three examples of this albums fantastic peices. I wasn't even born yet during the time of its release, but it isn't difficult to understand why it was so popular, or why it's alos consisdered to be the band's only true album. So, forget about the label of Ah-Ha being a one hit wonder and pick this album up today. You won't regret it, trust me!
Um dos melhores álbuns da década de 80 completando 20 anos!!
Com o eterno hit "Take on me", o A-ha começava sua promissora carreira. Este álbum contém ainda outras músicas mundialmente conhecidas (a linda "Hunting high and low" e a eletrizante "The sun always shines on TV").
